I shot an arrow into the air

I shot an arrow into the air

It fell to earth, I know not where

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I always liked that poem. I loved the imagery. And isn’t that what I’m doing? Writing a book for people to read. I did my best, I aimed as well as I could, but eventually, you just have to throw it out there and see what happens.

Will anybody read it? I hope so. My friends will, my family, certainly, but I hope other people do. This is pure escapist literature. If someone is going through a tough time, this is meant to be a book and a world they can get lost in for a time and forget the real world. Something to make them remember that there is magic in the world.

Because that is something I was thinking about when I was writing Sweet Dreams. This isn’t some other world or cinematic universe – this is our world, it’s just that you never turned down that road, or you didn’t make it around the corner quite in time. You didn’t turn your head when something flickered at the edge of your vision, or you didn’t stare hard enough into the dark, and so you missed the magic.

But I didn’t. I tried to bottle it up and put it into Sweet Dreams. And now it’s done. My arrow, shot into the air.

I’m real curious to see where it lands.
